A New Light Fixture and Marble in Jason's Kitchen

Along with working on getting the girl's bedroom ready so we can stay there on our next visit (which I will share pictures of hopefully next week) we also made some progress in the kitchen and dining room. The <a href="http://dearlillieblog.blogspot.com/2014/03/jasons-kitchen-and-dining-room.html">last time</a> I showed you Jason's kitchen we'd made quite bit of progress but still needed to add the finishing touches. Since <a href="http://dearlillieblog.blogspot.com/2014/03/jasons-kitchen-and-dining-room.html">then</a> we were able to purchase a marble remnant and have it installed on the island top which was quite excited about! Then I added some faux roman shades using a shower curtain from Target that I cut up. You can read a little more about the <a href="http://dearlillieblog.blogspot.com/2013/11/our-faux-roman-shade.html">roman shade I made in our kitchen here in this post</a> that includes a link to a tutorial. And then we were able to replace the old light with this fabulous little chandelier from <a href="http://www.wayfair.com/Chandeliers-C215419.html" rel="nofollow">Wayfair</a>! I knew I liked this chandelier when I first found it on their website but I was a little bit nervous if it was going to be the right look in here. Now that it is up though I think it might be my favorite update in the room. And I really love how it balances out the lantern in the dining room. I will share lots and lots of before and after pictures of both the kitchen and dining room soon with lots more details but wanted to at least show a little preview today of the marble and new light fixture. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj45hHjtxt6GqtlubFGczYHBwcgcdSBDVCIwyci5a48p6aDN5qR3k9GBnBc4pmIxXc02Zs0cVbyxMr359la9IE0akMU0oFyusMjFHQ0ryFxo3z9RkwEL4Ac74_Fn_XBq-b7nEWiL9nxglI/s1600/sBeforeAfterKitchen.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj45hHjtxt6GqtlubFGczYHBwcgcdSBDVCIwyci5a48p6aDN5qR3k9GBnBc4pmIxXc02Zs0cVbyxMr359la9IE0akMU0oFyusMjFHQ0ryFxo3z9RkwEL4Ac74_Fn_XBq-b7nEWiL9nxglI/s1600/sBeforeAfterKitchen.jpg" /></a> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTiAuFmkExNDrn_fDqKgWdvqzv4y-HkZNTLva6BWtJMSP30oCkGI6ruvabBlg2HDg_YhHJB_XYbpZjusplPpuYs-FcINzRmeK0d-FMUbbqew60xkFz7TdYzTr168JnPejI-eqrZDd35MU/s1600/oDSC_8202.jpg" width="436" /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQBlXIQI_damof_B1-WQlFuMPPmWz4QDRvYAFyFiwgUihgK_srQtsvHY0j7Rr7xhcSD2-uhtmxOpYYQcvYIvkOvdzZjxjWblpaTUilqUsdAAyPdQLF6zkWpM5GUG92wuAgzl5QYYIhGoc/s1600/oDSC_8217.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQBlXIQI_damof_B1-WQlFuMPPmWz4QDRvYAFyFiwgUihgK_srQtsvHY0j7Rr7xhcSD2-uhtmxOpYYQcvYIvkOvdzZjxjWblpaTUilqUsdAAyPdQLF6zkWpM5GUG92wuAgzl5QYYIhGoc/s1600/oDSC_8217.jpg" width="436" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOVSX1Y5GVBuckrnKz_XCY-9A8t6gqUte-XMkrIu1WzTlgE-apISvPkGDzNQPSXZvyQBT0aGVzEI2mEV_XPB5LRiV4-rKBH8-eD7Y14C4L5DeR3-EEsoajAfJS5zrFxrwzs-rwtyR3iZw/s1600/oDSC_8273.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOVSX1Y5GVBuckrnKz_XCY-9A8t6gqUte-XMkrIu1WzTlgE-apISvPkGDzNQPSXZvyQBT0aGVzEI2mEV_XPB5LRiV4-rKBH8-eD7Y14C4L5DeR3-EEsoajAfJS5zrFxrwzs-rwtyR3iZw/s1600/oDSC_8273.jpg" width="436" /></a></div> I will have lots and lots more photos to share soon! <br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br /><b><u>Source List: </u></b><br /><br />Wall Color - Revere Pewter by BM in a matte finish<br />Trim - Simply White by BM in a semi-gloss finish<br />Doors - Wrought Iron by BM in semi-gloss <br />Island Color - Galveston Gray by BM <br />Chandelier - <a href="http://www.wayfair.com/Chandeliers-C215419.html" rel="nofollow">Wayfair</a> (I think it may be out of stock right now but will update this link once I find out)<br />Bar Stools - IKEA <br />Appliances - Home Depot<br />Floor - Peel and Stick vinyl that looks like wood from Lowe's<br />Counters - Black Granite from Home Depot<br />Island Countertop - Polished Carrara Marble (remnant) <br />Little Cabinet with Baskets - Joss and Main<br />Metal Mail Organizers - HomeGoods<br />Glass Bottles on Granite - TJMaxx<br />White Pitcher - Target<br />White Lilacs - freshly cut from back yard<br />Glass Bottles on Little Wood Tray on Island - White Home Collection in Wilton, NH<br />Charcoal Color Chairs - Target<br />End Chairs - Pier 1  Table - IKEA<br />Mirror - Pier 1 <br />Faux Roman Shades - made from a shower curtain at Target<br /><br /><br />Have a wonderful weekend!<br /><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcmcUI9pCe3OrPgUK_yav43ZtmmbBN_uAcRWvs8FS8Jpu181jjDEBLq8Ylrh0zVrsVaMgadN7lb-z320O5jBctGD9WsLdYSj2e3DbKigNRyv-ro62kGsVuAkEGDGI_bAXHGY-c2KaoCt0/s1600/sig.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcmcUI9pCe3OrPgUK_yav43ZtmmbBN_uAcRWvs8FS8Jpu181jjDEBLq8Ylrh0zVrsVaMgadN7lb-z320O5jBctGD9WsLdYSj2e3DbKigNRyv-ro62kGsVuAkEGDGI_bAXHGY-c2KaoCt0/s1600/sig.png" /></a></div><br />

Yay! Last week our new light fixture arrived and the following day I hung it with help from a couple of the women's basketball players. I have hung most of the ones in this house that I've switched out myself (well, if you don't count Lillie - haha!) so I have to say it was really nice having a 6'3" helper holding the weight of the chandelier while I wired it.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I ordered the smaller size but it still is a bit bigger and has a bit more "bling" than I was expecting (which probably sounds silly seeing how I knew what it looked like when I ordered it) but in real life it has taken a bit of time to adjust to it. Haha! I originally planned on going with a lantern in here but the more I stared at how it would look from the angle where you could see the chandelier in our dining room I realized the lantern I  liked really wouldn't coordinate very well with that so I went a completely different direction. I thought this one would coordinate well with it, and I do think that but it is a bit more of a statement piece than I was planning on getting for the entryway - whoops! Haha!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicKCoCC0tvCMqhk4He-5ah69q1NrSXLo90vPrf0IpkJqj9l06_oGQI_ALnQq8NozAN1KW8Ieefh_TphyphenhyphenYCMrNKTo4oNAw-E7z5SjbL0uGrWoyaDIapvTAH6MqnLnGOmf9W6_5dsn5aAWs/s1600/bDSC_3100.jpg" width="436" /></div><br />Even though all the rest of the Christmas decorations were put away in the attic I left the garland on the stairway up so I could take pictures with the new light fixture seeing how I knew it was going to look quite bare once we took the garland down until I get around to dealing with decorating the wall going up the stairs.  <br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; I don't know about you all but this is my favorite time of year! Tonight I thought I would show you the progress we've made in our dining room. Just like all of the other rooms I've shown you in our new home this one still isn't finished but I feel like we've made enough headway to at least show you what we've done in here so far. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgh9HCV7f2TfVtE3dUAV_yfCUeDBM5z7XfJZVFEEC6_ptF7hSQv0XKNWPxmDTo3pRXXDBsN1R2meErPzgN6D-M5P9YvycyjrEVZVcbFRJ0rybZgOxkFlnn_FSTqhKKzfJ8gwhIrvSvZRnxP/s1600/oJuly_2241.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgh9HCV7f2TfVtE3dUAV_yfCUeDBM5z7XfJZVFEEC6_ptF7hSQv0XKNWPxmDTo3pRXXDBsN1R2meErPzgN6D-M5P9YvycyjrEVZVcbFRJ0rybZgOxkFlnn_FSTqhKKzfJ8gwhIrvSvZRnxP/s640/oJuly_2241.jpg" width="436" /></a> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Here is what it looked like when we moved in. Fortunately this is one of the rooms where we didn't really have to undo anything. There wasn't any wallpaper to remove or any strange features to deal with. It was pretty much a blank canvas. To start with I painted the windows and all the trim. As has been the case with all the rooms so far that is my least favorite part. First I primed it all with Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 primer. Then I did three coats of Simply White in Benjamin Moore's Aura Paint. I used the semi-gloss finish. After that I painted the upper half of the wall in Gray Owl at 75%. For that I went with the matte finish. After painting so much trim in this house I have to say I get really excited when it gets to the part where I get to paint the walls. I plan on eventually adding a pretty wallpaper to the upper half but haven't found the right paper yet so until then figured it would be best to at least have the walls painted. Then after that we had beadboard wallpaper put up on the lower half to help add some character. It is the paintable kind but I actually haven't painted it yet. I will eventually use the Simply White on that too. I have to say I was really really skeptical about going with a beadboard wallpaper over real beadboard (which we used in our last home) and kind of just did it on a whim and I have to say I was thrilled with how it turned out. We used in in the entry way too and I would highly recommend it and would use it again! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMiwmeydei3l_CUWv7eqMTORNgzuE0OnfVEDbPoTOAi3QI0aOWSVhH0JjUAGWaKLxV-eaJuwaIe_JGKvtQLput3yCLtkucP8fQgqIOwWagtQEi2T2HZ0JOQQAhs88mZ3Y6lUv5shHl8oms/s640/oBeforeAFter.jpg" width="450" /></div><br />I was really torn the last month or so on what color I was going to paint the doors here in the dining room and the rest of the house (minus the family room/kitchen). I kept going back and forth between Simply White and Mopboard Black. I primed all the doors and then couldn't make a decision so they looked awful just sitting there primed but unpainted for weeks. I have to admit I finally made my decision based on laziness.  I painted the interior part of our front door black (I knew that was going to be black regardless of what color I chose for the other doors). Well, it only took about one and a half coats (one real coat and one touch up coat) to put the black on and it took me four when I did the Simply White on Lillie and Lola's closet doors upstairs and because I have to admit, I am getting pretty sick of painting, the thought of so many fewer coats overall tipped the scales in favor of going with black. Even though I made the decision for such a lazy reason I have to say I am so glad I did go with the black. I loved how it looked when I did it earlier this year at Jason's but was nervous how it was going to flow here in this house but it ended up working out much nicer than I anticipated. <br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPu6WeyblV0jhmcRyi7CUneJoSh1XUMQZBxMvwN6lk1DJXvkkoA931FfgsSEzUOl3Uzct5Fvv8dUOyJPqHN_3uRiO6F-r3OdhqQVECNFDDh8RndfHtlwec46shRnmy8RB2PMYHaDLYjhws/s1600/oJuly_2234.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPu6WeyblV0jhmcRyi7CUneJoSh1XUMQZBxMvwN6lk1DJXvkkoA931FfgsSEzUOl3Uzct5Fvv8dUOyJPqHN_3uRiO6F-r3OdhqQVECNFDDh8RndfHtlwec46shRnmy8RB2PMYHaDLYjhws/s640/oJuly_2234.jpg" width="436" /></a></div><br />My favorite feature in this room is definitely the chandelier! I am so excited about it. It's funny because I was pretty torn on making that decision too. I completely copied my Aunt Patty on the chandelier. She has this exact one and I fell in love with it the moment I saw it! I have been swooning over it for the last year now. I knew that I loved it but wasn't sure if I wanted to go this route or the route of a lantern. I am a huge fan of the Bolton Lantern that Pottery Barn sells and kept trying to decide which way to go. They are completely different looks. I have somewhere else though that I might be able to get the Bolton Lantern for but that project is still a little ways off. I ordered my chandelier through <a href="https://www.facebook.com/savvywmbg?ref=ts&fref=ts" target="_blank">Savvy</a> while they were having a Labor Day Sale. (If you've been reading this blog for very long you know is pretty much my favorite shop in Williamsburg). The ladies that work there are all so wonderful to work with and so helpful!<br /><br />Thank you, Aunt Patty for letting me copy your chandelier! Now I kind of want to copy the wallpaper you have in your powder room... <br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5shBoI_SjH1xSQ5b5R20zjc_QLOeXlfv0saA02RSG9-5Xh0ARnVjM7i_CgxuIyGOpD-sI-Kd11wMWh_jR2K6jb-EIHg41QHKYhXfU3F8larGrPP7DQkj04A89cBjWX_hDxoCFedgSImdJ/s1600/oJuly_2261.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5shBoI_SjH1xSQ5b5R20zjc_QLOeXlfv0saA02RSG9-5Xh0ARnVjM7i_CgxuIyGOpD-sI-Kd11wMWh_jR2K6jb-EIHg41QHKYhXfU3F8larGrPP7DQkj04A89cBjWX_hDxoCFedgSImdJ/s640/oJuly_2261.jpg" width="436" /></a></div><br /><br />Although I always do the wiring myself I generally have Jon nearby to help if whatever light fixture I am hanging is heavy and I need help lifting it. He was out of town though the day this arrived and I was so excited to get it hung I decided to try to rig a way to get it up there. Lillie always enjoys watching and she was really helpful passing me each strand of beads so at the end for the first time I let her put one of the bulbs in seeing how Lola was napping. She has always wanted to do that so she was quite excited about climbing up the ladder and putting that last bulb in. (And don't worry - I had the breaker off for the dining room when she was helping!) <br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgdgSfueJ97dFBCl4WNtAVW1PHlqwq34UhaBXpwlI8iQn2ZEmapvo-8Rw68IzNoCU3VrGUGFPmLaroayKJ0b_NxaRPgZUpKnkcIDvldSRWoRdoTQBr-3jeWdnrTCsHknSg8lOw3H7rKamf/s1600/oJuly_2313text.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="436" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgdgSfueJ97dFBCl4WNtAVW1PHlqwq34UhaBXpwlI8iQn2ZEmapvo-8Rw68IzNoCU3VrGUGFPmLaroayKJ0b_NxaRPgZUpKnkcIDvldSRWoRdoTQBr-3jeWdnrTCsHknSg8lOw3H7rKamf/s640/oJuly_2313text.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br />We used the <a href="http://dearlillieblog.blogspot.com/2012/09/our-farm-house-table-saga.html" target="_blank">farmhouse table</a> that we made for our last house. (You can read more about that <a href="http://dearlillieblog.blogspot.com/2012/09/our-farm-house-table-saga.html" target="_blank">here</a>). I would love to eventually get a different table for in here but for now this is fine. I've had these IKEA slipcovered chairs for a while now. I really need to iron them - just ignore that. =) I got the other chairs from Joss and Main using store credit that I had earned so was able to get all four for just $100! The poor clock just keeps getting moved from room to room. First we had it in the study. Then once we got this room painted we we moved it in here, then I switched it to the entryway for a couple of days, and then back in here for a week or two. And then yesterday I moved it back into the entryway again. Haha! I actually am pretty sure now that that is where it's going to stay but I haven't decided for sure yet. I think the clock from the kitchen is probably going to get moved in here and go on the wall where the Swedish clock is in these photos because I had to switch things around in the kitchen. (I've showed a few pictures of that on Instagram) and will post about that next week as long as I can get some photos taken with my real camera later this week. <br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-UZVgIP0H2x5Nl2cCHNQn8Y22AWDu5dg-GzWFVcsQ1-iTX4GahpHjlEU2o6r0tn2gJh38iLrE5hcTaRt2YAFlJiecPeM44N35z02nCmRxHUQUsr0fXiOBFPnGbJJayD54XjORP2W7ZZnH/s1600/oJuly_2277.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-UZVgIP0H2x5Nl2cCHNQn8Y22AWDu5dg-GzWFVcsQ1-iTX4GahpHjlEU2o6r0tn2gJh38iLrE5hcTaRt2YAFlJiecPeM44N35z02nCmRxHUQUsr0fXiOBFPnGbJJayD54XjORP2W7ZZnH/s640/oJuly_2277.jpg" width="436" /></a></div><br />This is a horrible shot but you can see here that the wallpaper actually is raised and not just a faux beadboard look.<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUFnIdWK2w072zCUsKFKXq0kYMfdFm_p6zF5W25gZFO__Qm6hAaOMgSvDtM-F2CZMDP3BL7k0MSHpQgD7SAUMEmYp1ByNypB484B_et0mA1WEZPGcq_lr1dbp-OipnpLQ1x8o9_milrKDC/s1600/oJuly_2282.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUFnIdWK2w072zCUsKFKXq0kYMfdFm_p6zF5W25gZFO__Qm6hAaOMgSvDtM-F2CZMDP3BL7k0MSHpQgD7SAUMEmYp1ByNypB484B_et0mA1WEZPGcq_lr1dbp-OipnpLQ1x8o9_milrKDC/s640/oJuly_2282.jpg" width="436" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHjGNaZWpwZLmmabD-FP9VFXqE_K3lG0rGxovhAzAZX5NvbyY8zqjk4PIqce39aG_PmEd2ipsHZdVOJ-upxujVxOozAlUMKCQc35G-mHAOHeRiljx8BwLcFJOJLBhqhYwp6Z70Q9isTDox/s1600/oJuly_2289.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHjGNaZWpwZLmmabD-FP9VFXqE_K3lG0rGxovhAzAZX5NvbyY8zqjk4PIqce39aG_PmEd2ipsHZdVOJ-upxujVxOozAlUMKCQc35G-mHAOHeRiljx8BwLcFJOJLBhqhYwp6Z70Q9isTDox/s640/oJuly_2289.jpg" width="436" /></a></div><br />I also am really excited about this <a href="http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/product/Mikasa-reg-French-Countryside-Dinnerware/102966?Keyword=french+countryside" target="_blank">new dinnerware</a> that <a href="http://www.mikasa.com/45-Piece-Dinnerware-Set-with-Serving-Accessories/F9000-045,default,pd.html#cgid=french-country&wm_crID=16415116&wm_lpID=71883005&wm_ctID=360&wm_kwID=48762220&wm_mtID=3&wm_content=0&wm_g_crID=22189412177&wm_g_kw=mikasa+french+countryside&wm_g_pcmt=&wm_g_cnt=0&wm_g_device=c&src=MKAPDSEARCHPFRENCH&gclid=CP_v3O3V9rkCFUNyQgodgmUA7g&wm_kw=mikasa+french+countryside&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=mikasa+french+countryside&utm_campaign=pattern+%28r%29+-+french+countryside&wm_sd=1&start=0&hitcount=112" target="_blank">Mikasa</a> sent me! Tonight I wanted to show you a quick makeover we did on an outdated chandelier. We actually have ordered our new chandelier for our dining room which should be coming in the next week or two. When I was painting the dining room, though, we hadn't made a decision yet on what chandelier we were going to order and I knew once I got the walls painted staring at this brass chandelier was going to be distracting from the paint job so I figured it would be fun to give it a quick makeover so it didn't stand out so much in the newly painted room. I remembered that Amy from <a href="http://maisondecor8.blogspot.com/2013/01/painting-brass-chandelier-and-big.html">Maison Decor</a> had updated a chandelier a while ago with chalk paint so figured it couldn't hurt to try it on this one. If it went awry it wouldn't matter too much seeing how we were taking it down anyway, and if it worked well then I would be able to possibly use this technique on the sconces in our powder room (the powder room is the next project after I finish up the entryway - we already have the new toilet installed and new vanity top, sink and faucet ordered so now I just have to make a decision on wallpaper and then paint the sconces, trim, door and current vanity base, and then switch out the mirror and do a little decorating). <br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;">Here is the chandelier we had to start with: </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL2FjsZiANtZHdSJkk4pKNj-1-xDP1LbNQ6n6iiiY0QhDdDrAsN6Fq6pUX2qWfNKqQINnK6dcwLzX5RyOszrYCgLn-6jVjDxZcNyL-FB-UwdWfoGAydxvOjka77i4ZI0LAPs1Ck0n7gFQq/s1600/cphoto-7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL2FjsZiANtZHdSJkk4pKNj-1-xDP1LbNQ6n6iiiY0QhDdDrAsN6Fq6pUX2qWfNKqQINnK6dcwLzX5RyOszrYCgLn-6jVjDxZcNyL-FB-UwdWfoGAydxvOjka77i4ZI0LAPs1Ck0n7gFQq/s640/cphoto-7.jpg" width="436" /></a></div><br />The first thing I did was paint on some of the Annie Sloan paint in Paris Gray from the lovely Karla at <a href="http://www.ladybutterbug.com/shop#!__shop/chalk-paint">Lady Butterbug</a>.  I figured it was going to go on fairly easily but I have to say it went on even easier than I anticipated. I added a second coat once it was dry just to ensure all of the brass was covered. <br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZoxi2EMlsNHyrPgOzC3hKC5fIxkbpzh7IHvkml0qXMHaYgresMR9xlxrgHGIOqH97K7uKdxop-T59kYyfjkp1BaZkAs9QF8SmPUJAnD24QGRKKyRZrBqBdV4sjj3azUzkCRQDZHNs3oL5/s1600/cphoto-8.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZoxi2EMlsNHyrPgOzC3hKC5fIxkbpzh7IHvkml0qXMHaYgresMR9xlxrgHGIOqH97K7uKdxop-T59kYyfjkp1BaZkAs9QF8SmPUJAnD24QGRKKyRZrBqBdV4sjj3azUzkCRQDZHNs3oL5/s640/cphoto-8.jpg" width="436" /></a></div><br />After that I just rubbed on the wax and switched out the bulbs for more delicate looking ones and that was it - so easy! I didn't even take it down from the ceiling! Because I knew it was just a temporary fix I didn't put a whole lot of effort into getting the detailed parts perfect. I have to say it was relatively quick and easy project and such an inexpensive way to modernize an older light fixture! <br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>The girls wanted me to add some "sparkles" which was a fun little touch but I have to admit I took them down after a day and fortunately they didn't notice. =) <br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYKu1YOzG1V2Jl7h0ymuoC1aYXtJOM9_JBWBdpF0xo8cNiNskI96faTd10FOluPLdz_L0z0EYvGiCb_eOWqgOKQn0vY6QCCQm0PJTJYmIr81HXDLbubxOSpQM_gHA6lfY2YQ7zUeTdJ8fR/s1600/cJuly_1720.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYKu1YOzG1V2Jl7h0ymuoC1aYXtJOM9_JBWBdpF0xo8cNiNskI96faTd10FOluPLdz_L0z0EYvGiCb_eOWqgOKQn0vY6QCCQm0PJTJYmIr81HXDLbubxOSpQM_gHA6lfY2YQ7zUeTdJ8fR/s640/cJuly_1720.jpg" width="436" /></a></div><br />We've still got a lot to do in here but here's a little peek at the new paint on the walls and trim. I like the clock better in here than in the den although it may make one more move to the entry way when I am finished painting in there. Or it may end up staying in here but I will wait and see where it looks better once the walls in the entry way are painted - we shall see. More musical furniture. =) <br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEjYmdcCCeV4S2vz8L6WVpNmNgstWwunQ5sv8qG8ncXmCfQDCQNXjHwzT9Ey67sWk0zybQPM_KBRDoe51-4jOJbEqQfa5qzzFXIOQKIsWCpveZeMIKfH6ozErCCwIJruBTr8Fj-_ZLm6a3/s1600/cJuly_1705.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEjYmdcCCeV4S2vz8L6WVpNmNgstWwunQ5sv8qG8ncXmCfQDCQNXjHwzT9Ey67sWk0zybQPM_KBRDoe51-4jOJbEqQfa5qzzFXIOQKIsWCpveZeMIKfH6ozErCCwIJruBTr8Fj-_ZLm6a3/s640/cJuly_1705.jpg" width="436" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><img border="0" height="436" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjONNY9LCnb6IvQnUSxf0P1aeTCG-u_WiMc8_vwnZf-DTMm1skS3VREjPERgRD1aJp4JBbFKwJGWSxpYZ76W4L1jo1jYnbpoihfp8nqBNIwcaG9qtyFl8fFrSwHIfTcBSXvSrLKFHa2sKnp/s640/cJuly_1708.jpg" width="640" /> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">If you are looking to purchase some Annie Sloan <a href="http://www.ladybutterbug.com/shop#!__shop/chalk-paint">chalk paint</a> I highly recommend ordering it through Karla at <a href="http://www.ladybutterbug.com/shop#!__shop/chalk-paint">Lady Butterbug</a>. She has been such a pleasure to work with and I am looking forward to ordering some more colors once I find some furniture pieces for the dining room and entryway! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Have a fabulous week!
