Jason's Living Room (Before and "Almost" After)

This room had great bones - we loved the fireplace and french doors. We really just had to paint (Lillie and Lola of course loved the "pink" walls but Jason was not as big a fan) and then add well, pretty much everything. Ha! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Shortly after moving in my parent's helped Jason paint the walls Galveston Gray and then Jamie painted the trim white and we painted the doors black. And right when Jason moved in he bought Jamie and Josh's old IKEA couch off of them. After that the room stayed like that for almost a year. During the winter we added the rug and some gray chairs from Joss and Main and the lamps from Target seeing how there weren't any overhead lights. And then this summer we fianlly got around to adding some more finishing touches. We were really watching our budget in this room and were quite excited to be able to use store credit at Joss and Main to get this really cool industrial looking coffee table for just $7 - yay! We also found this mirror in the garage that the previous owner had left so we figured we would try it above the fireplace. Even though it wasn't necessarily what we would have chosen for the space you can't beat free!  We built the shelves and made the Notre Dame Sign (you can read more about those both <a href="http://dearlillieblog.blogspot.com/2014/08/two-big-projects-in-jasons-living-room.html">here</a>), and then added the little side chair from HomeGoods and little table from Target.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; This post was supposed to go up several days ago but our internet went out (which sadly happens quite often - ugh!) Fortunately it's back up and running again finally so here are the images from Jason's hallway.<br /><br />I couldn't find any before pictures but basically it was just yellowy cream walls with yellowy cream trim and a yellowy cream door. Before we got up there for the summer, Jason did quite a bit of patchwork to the walls and then Jamie painted the trim and doors so all I had to do was paint the walls and hang a few things. We didn't really want to spend practically any money on the hallway so we used paint we already had - I think it was called Rockport Gray and a board we already had along with some hooks we found from when we used to sell wood signs a few years ago. So, we were able to make the coat rack for free which was nice. Some Finishing touches to Lillie and Lola's Old Fashioned New England Bedroom

I took these pictures in a huge rush the last day there when the lighting wasn't that great so they aren't that crisp but you can at least get a feel for some of the things we added.  We did most of the work on making over this room over Memorial Day weekend (you can read that post here) so this summer just added a few little touches in here like the rug, the trunks at the ends of the beds and the silhouette of each of the girls above each bed. There isn't an overhead light in this room but we had this little plug-in chandelier that has been just sitting in a closet since we moved a year ago. (It used to be in the little window seat area in Lillie's room in our townhouse). I figured seeing how it wasn't being used it couldn't hurt to try it up here. I don't love how it looks but it's nice now having a light. The plug it's hooked into is one of those ones that turns on and off with the switch right when you enter the room so it works just like a regular overhead light. Two Big Projects in Jason's Living Room (A Restoration Hardware Industrial Style Bookshelf and a Huge Notre Dame Sign)

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">We were able to make quite a bit of progress on my brother, Jason's living room while we were up visiting this summer. I think these two projects were my favorite things we've done so far in his house. We spent a good bit of our budget on this house earlier this year on fixing up the kitchen and buying some basic furniture (like chairs in the living room, a rug, a dining room table, dining chairs, etc.) so now that it's time to decorate the goal was pretty much to spend as little as possible. We used supplies that we already had so this project was completely free. And we worked on it together without driving each other crazy, which was "great teamwork" as Lillie and Lola like to say. Haha! We had this extra piece of wood from our kitchen island. We had used it as a temporary top to the island for the first year and then finally had the marble installed this spring so we had this extra piece of wood just sitting around.  For people that have asked - yes, we do hope to sell something similar to this in the future as well as some other college logos. We need to figure out the licensing part first though and once we do then we plan on making them for our shop. I built this myself but poor Jason did quite a bit of cleaning up after me. In fact, I think he might still be cleaning up after me on this one.  As I am writing this I just remembered I never picked up the spray paint and boards from the backyard - whoops! Haha!<br /><br /> It isn't quite finished yet but it's functional! I roughly used <a href="http://ana-white.com/2011/01/rolling-industrial-shelves.html">these plans</a> from Ana White's website, but changed the sizing a bit and did the shelves a little bit differently. We bought wheels for the base and I planned on adding them but the coffee table we ended up finding for the room had wheels too so we decided it might be a bit much having two pieces with wheels on them right next to each other in the same room. I think it looks like it's missing something on the base though so I do plan on adding something I just haven't decided what yet. And I still need to add the brackets on the corners. But for now it's close enough to being finished. The tennis racquet and truck were my grandfather's and then we added a bunch of baskets from HomeGoods to help store things like the girl's puzzles and other little things. <br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both;
