I still have a few thing I am working on (like the wall opposite the bed) but we've made quite a bit of progress.<br /><br />The before pictures were from literally right after we moved in so the room was a complete mess and we had no idea what we were going to use where. And sorry that the before pictures have such a weird pink hue to them, I have no idea why they look that way. The dresser in the before picture is now in <a href="http://dearlillieblog.blogspot.com/2014/01/january-in-our-den.html">our den</a>, the chalkboard and the nightstands are now in our <a href="http://dearlillieblog.blogspot.com/2014/05/adding-desk-to-our-guest-bedroomoffice.html">guest room/office</a> and the queen sized bed went in to the <a href="http://dearlillieblog.blogspot.com/2014/05/some-finishing-touches-to-our-gray.html">gray guest bedroom</a> which is nice having in there because we have so many family members that come visit. We decided to go with a  king size bed so we got mattresses once we moved the queen sized bed into the guest room and then slept with them on the floor for quite a while before deciding on this bed from Ballard Designs which we absolutely LOVE. It was a big splurge for us but I have to say I am so happy we went with it. We didn't want to spend very much money but still needed something substantial to look proportionate with the size of the bed. I hunted and hunted but had trouble finding something the right size that wasn't way more than I wanted to spend. I ended up giving up on finding something and decided to go with the  the inexpensive IKEA Tarva dresser and customize it to look a little bit more our style. Even though technically it is a dresser, it is the perfect size nightstand for our room. Here are a few photos of the end result and then if you scroll down I will show you what it looked like when we started and how we transformed it. And I am not going to lie. I am not a fan of putting together IKEA furniture. I hate it. And I would also add I probably am least impressed with this piece as far as IKEA pieces go. I actually am planning on writing a post in the near future about all of the different IKEA items we have purchased over the years and what we have been happy with and what we would recommend (because there are several pieces I absolutely love) and what items I have not been as thrilled with. Anyway, because of the drawers this piece took a little while and it's a little bit on the flimsy side. Once I got to the part where you add the legs I skipped that step. The legs on it would have made it a little taller than I wanted next to the bed plus I thought it would look a little better with some little bun feet. In retrospect I wish I had gone with a larger size and may switch them out at some point but you don't really notice them once you are further back so I may never get around to it. I used clamps to hold them in place until the liquid nails dried. You can see in the two below the one on the left was just with spray paint and the one on the right has the wax. Although we still have a little ways to go before we are completely  finished we've made enough progress that I decided to finally take some photos. Once I go through all of those I will do a full post with a detailed source list - probably at some point early next week. But in the meantime I thought I would share a few photos of our nightstand makeover. We bought some simple dressers at IKEA and did a little makeover on them to dress them up a bit and make them work a little better in our space. I was planning on showing you a before and after of them and a tutorial today but I ended up getting sidetracked until the wee hours of the morning today working on building a console type piece and so I didn't have enough time to write up the tutorial. Hopefully though I will get to that tonight and have it ready for tomorrow.
