My siblings and I played just about everything, but we always had a special love for basketball and baseball. Both my parents played basketball and my dad was a basketball coach, and then I met and fell in love with Jon so my life will probably continue to revolve around basketball until the day I die. My mom's family has strong baseball ties and we grew up excited about trips to the ballpark and eating hot dogs, cotton candy and ice cream that was served in an upside down plastic baseball hat. There's just something about a warm summer evening that brings back memories of sitting in the stands at a ballpark as the sun set, with my glove on my hand, listening for the crack of the bat and waiting with anticipation for a foul ball to come my way...(and yes, Jon makes great fun of me for the fact that I used to bring my glove to every game... -haha!) <br /><br />While we were in New Hamsphire this summer, we were headed to a baby shower for one of my cousins over in Vermont and drove by an old baseball field. I immediately fell in love with the old dugouts against the cornfields. The setting was so serene and looked so untouched by time. I found out later my dad used to play on this field when he was younger. A couple weeks later I met my cousin Cathy and her husband, Jason out there with their five little ones and we let them run around and play and I took some photos. <br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; Fourth of July Fruit Salad

I didn't have time to finish editing the picture of some of the other projects we did for 4th of July, but I thought I would at least show you some pictures of a little patriot themed snack we had this weekend. I recently saw a fun image on Pinterest and traced it back to Amanda of <a href="http://witandwhistle.com/2011/07/05/cookie-cutter-fruit-salad/">Wit and Whistle</a>. It looked pretty easy so I thought we would give it a try yesterday. Well, I have to say it was even easier than I thought! (We also used the star cookie cutter on pancakes on Saturday morning and it sort of worked but not nearly as neatly as this did!) It seriously just made me want to start cutting watermelon into any shape imaginable!<br /><br />All we did was slice a watermelon in half and then sliced it so we had several 1/2 to 1 inch thick circles. And then we used a star-shaped cookie cutter (we got ours at JoAnn's a couple of weeks ago) and just sliced out some stars. Well, first, let me say that things do get wet and it does requiring some major cleaning and scrubbing at the end of each spring thanks to the pollen but other than that it is relatively easy to keep up with things. Once the pollen season seems to be over I take all of the bedding, tableclothes and anything else that can be washed and do a huge load of laundry (it took two loads this year). While all of the linens are washing I scrub the furniture down with soap and warm water and do a thorough sweeping/dusting. Then after that I add all of the fresh linens back where they go and start adding the seasonal touches. I do this about four times a year. Once at the end of the spring, and then again at the end of the summer. Those two times require a more thorough cleaning and it can take an hour or two. Then I often do it at the end of autumn, and again at the end of the winter. Those times are much quicker and often take less than 30 minutes. When we get a really bad rainstorm, if I remember, I will move some of the pillows to the other side of the daybed but other than that I don't do much else for upkeep out there. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">We go through phases where we kind of forget about it and don't spend much time out there and then phases where we eat dinner out there almost every evening for weeks! We just did the "after the pollen" major cleaning two weeks or so ago and so have started spending quite a bit of time out there again. The girls love eating dinner out there. They seem to think eating outdoors is quite fun. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This summer I thought it would be fun to add a little more color. Lillie keeps wanting me to decorate with pink and purple and seeing how I don't want to add that inside right now =) I figured she would think it was fun to add some color out on the porch. Plus it's fun to personalize the space. Lillie had so much fun making them with me. We made these posters for a little over $7 a piece! I had tried making some before using a tutorial I found on pinterest but couldn't ever get them to look right. They wrinkled up and just did not look right. I played around and came up with a new way to do it and it was so easy! I will have the tutorial up soon. Just need to take a few more photos of the steps, which hopefully I can do today.  Not only does is cost less than $10 it takes less than five minutes!  </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;
