Some Fall Decorating...

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">First, a huge thank you so everyone who made Monday and Tuesday our busiest days ever in our Etsy shop! We are completely sold out of the Fairyland Quote with Silhouette and Ribbon Shirt and sold out of several sizes in several other styles. I have two more Mary Poppins styles coming in hopefully by the weekend and I also am having more of the Fairyland Shirts printed as well as more Jane Austen's. I think I am going to print the Jane Austen one on a thermal as well. It will probably be a good two weeks or so before I have any of those, though.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Anyway, here are some photos of the autumn decorating we have started to do. I love using natural elements (pine cones, acorns, real turkey feathers my dad collects for me from my parent's property up in NH, etc.) but unfortunately I learned the hard way that in the south using real pumpkins in September can be a disaster - they rot in about three days. (It is 90 degrees out right now, YUCK!)  So, for this month, my pumpkins are all fake. =( Once October comes and it finally starts to cool down a bit, we will head to the farmer's market and get some real ones! YAY! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I used mostly browns and some greens in the living room and dining room and then added a few touches of orange in the family room. The empty looking tree branch in the dining room is a project I started but haven't finished yet. I am planning on printing off the poem, <em>The Raven</em>, by Edgar Allen Poe, on a bunch of small pieces of tea stained paper and hanging it from the tree and possibly print off some vintage looking fall elements as well and hanging them. Once I finally get to that I will post pictures, but for now it is just a random tree branch - sorry!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Note to Self: Stop taking photos in a hurry! After looking at these pictures I am bound and determined to quit taking photos in such a hurry. When I finally get around to taking them of Lillie's new room I am going to try and take my time so that hopefully I can actually get a decent shot or two. These pictures I took with Lillie running around (she's cropped out of several of them - haha) in about two minutes and then when I got them on my computer wish I had of taken a little more care while shooting them. Screenprinted Shirts Now Available

Hello everyone! Sorry, I have been such a bad blogger lately. Unfortunately, I just can't seem to feel better and get caught up on everything. There is lots to write about, though. <strong>First</strong>, I want to say a huge<strong> thank you</strong> to everyone who made today such a busy day in our <a href="http://dearlillie.etsy.com/">store</a>! <strong>Second</strong>, we were honored to be <a href="http://www.joyfolieblog.com/2010/09/can-you-stand-it.html">featured</a> a few days ago by Jessica on one of my absolute favorite blogs, <a href="http://www.joyfolieblog.com/">Joyfolie</a>! I was so surprised and truly flattered to see Lillie's photos on there! Also, for those of you who have asked about photo editing tutorials. I don't think I would be very good at offering them as I am kind of a "wing it" type of Photoshop Girl, although I am trained in it. We got Lillie's big girl bed put together (what a project!) and she has been sleeping like a charm in it! What a relief. I will share more on that project later when I do a post on it. I left my sewing machine in NH on accident this summer, so I actually may have my sister Jamie make them for me and bring them down with her when she comes to visit next week! Our New Ivory Knit Hat and a WINNER!!!!

I know I said I would announce the winner on Wednesday and somehow it is past midnight so technically it is Thursday but I am just now getting on my computer. Sorry about that! It has been a very long week so far and I am behind on just about everything. I have so many posts I want to do: Lillie's Room, Fall Decorating, Screenprinted Shirts, etc. but there never seems to be enough time in the day to get to them. I generally only work when Lillie is napping or in bed for the night but this week she hasn't wanted to nap or sleep due to a pretty bad head cold so that has made it rather difficult to get anything done. At first I thought it was just her teeth bothering her, but then yesterday she woke up with her nose dripping like a faucet and a fever which climbed pretty high by the end of the day. Then I woke up this morning with my throat on fire and my head killing me and realized no wonder the poor thing hadn't been sleeping all week! So, with that on top of this awful morning sickness and with Jon back out on the road recruiting it has been a rather long week and I am terribly behind on everything. Fortunately I gave Lillie a nice dose of medicine and she is finally sleeping soundly so I am going to try to get a little bit of work done and then crawl in bed earlier than usual. I deactivated all of the rosette shirts and dresses on our Etsy site but as soon as I am feeling better will put them back up. If you have placed an order already, don't worry! I am still on track to have everything mailed out on schedule, I just don't want to take on any new orders until I am feeling better. Plus I am getting my last batch of screenprinted items back tomorrow and want to get them photographed and edited so that I can list them on Saturday (or maybe even Friday).</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Last week Lillie and I had lots of fun scavenging through all of the antique shops and consignment stores looking for a big girl bed for her. I have a bunch of beds I am in LOVE with, but of course, they are all around $1000 and I am looking for something around $100 (or even less if I can find something cheaper!) At first we didn't have much luck. We found lots of cool things, but not what we were looking for so we kept leaving empty handed. In one of the antique shops we found an adorable black baby carriage. I got so excited when I saw it thinking Lillie would love to play with  it and what a fun prop it would be for me =). Then I saw the price tag. I think it was like $238 or something - yikes! I quickly dragged her away from it before she did any damage to it. Haha. A few days later we were in another antique shop and I found a similar one and it was $30! To be honest, I might have thought that was a bit steep a few days earlier but after seeing the price on the first one, this one seemed like a steal! Lillie pushed it around the store the whole time we were there and I couldn't resist getting it even though I had been given strict instructions to not buy anything but a bed - whoops! Fortunately at the end of last week we stopped in the last store I could think of that might have a bed for Lillie. It is a little consignment shop called Chikadees and in the back clearance room there was a darling full size bed! We dragged Jon back in on Sunday to check it out and even though it needs a good bit of work I think we are going to head back there on Friday when Jon gets back in town and pick it up! I am so excited!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Anyway, I hope to have pictures of that this weekend or at least by the beginning of next week, and maybe I will have time to do the screenprinting pictures tomorrow and the fall stuff this weekend. In the meantime here are some photos of <strong>Lillie in her ivory knit hat that we will have for sale on Friday in our Etsy shop</strong>. It will be available in both a child's size and and adult's size. I love this one so much that I am going to have Dana make me one to match! I showed you all pictures of the navy hat in the last post and am hoping to take some pictures of the gray one soon. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><strong>This little photo shoot did not go as planned</strong>. I didn't get any pictures that I was happy with. I wanted to take pictures of this hat and her two new "Mimi" skirts paired with an adorable cream sweater that has a little ruffle around the waist and sleeves but it was about 95 degrees out when we took these so I felt like it was bad enough making her wear the hat and it would be down-right cruel to put the sweater on her. I also had such high hopes of getting great shots of Lillie pushing the carriage through Colonial Williamsburg but instead most of the pictures were of Lillie's bum-bum seeing how she spent most of the time bent over feeding the "fishies" and turtles and trying to climb in the pond. <strong>Her poor doll made it into the pond twice - fortunately we discovered she floats!</strong> Anyway, here are the ones that at least aren't of her bottom:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; However, I won't be making fun of JohnMark ever again after last night!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">So, anyway, after playing with them for a while in the water, Quinn got out to get some food. Lillie was out in the water standing next to JohnMark and splashing away. I was standing on the shore about 10 to 15 feet from them when I saw something gliding toward Lillie. I froze because it looked like a shark the way it was poked up out of the water and was slithering, but I knew of course there wouldn't be a shark in the river. It took about 2 or 3 seconds of me staring at it when my heart stopped beating! It was a snake and it was headed straight for Lillie. Although I wouldn't consider myself to be the bravest person in the world I am generally not that wimpy either, and am not scared of much as far as creatures go. I could pick up a huge spider or just about any kind of bug or rodent if I had too (although I don't like to! I am not an animal person at all, but they don't really scare me either). However, I am completely and utterly petrified of snakes! I completely froze - I was trying to scream and nothing was coming out. I could see it's body as it slithered right up next to Lillie and then it rear it's head!!!! It almost seemed like a movie because everything was happening in slow motion. I finally screamed "JohnMark - a SNAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!" Honestly, by the time I screamed it probably would have been too late. Fortunately, JohnMark saw it as it reared it's head up and in one motion snatched Lillie up with one arm and swatted the snake with his other and  thank goodness it took off. I am so thankful Lillie didn't see it first because I think she would have reached for it. Although she didn't cry or anything, I think the whole thing did scare her a bit because she is normally much of a snuggler and doesn't like to be held and she actually clung to JohnMark for a good five minutes or so before she wanted to get back down. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">I was a bit shaken the rest of the night but was more just creeped out than scared. On the ride home Jon and I were talking about it and I said something along the lines of  "...well, I suppose it was really more creepy scary than truly scary because although it was frightening in a creepy way it isn't like those snakes are harmful." Jon spun around and was like "What? Water moccasins are basically the most poisonous snakes around!" (Although I am certainly not an animal specialist I did look at a bunch of pictures online today and I am pretty sure it was indeed a water moccasin). Growing up in New England I had no idea of that, so I looked it up on my phone as we were driving home and my heart stopped when I started reading that they were deadly. Obviously, I don't know that it would have bitten her, but if JohnMark hadn't of snatched her right then and knocked it away and it had of bitten her........I can't even think about it! All I know is I am so incredibly grateful her heavenly Father was watching over her and so grateful for JohnMark's quick action (now I won't ever be able to tease him about being unathletic again...haha!) </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Just writing about it is getting me all worked up again so I had better move on to something happier! Here are some pictures of some new hand knit hats we are going to be offering this fall. Dana is knitting them and so far we are going to have them in gray, navy and cream.
